Storyline: Death of Captain America
Date: August 20, 2008
Price: $2.99
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artists: Steve Epting and Frank D’Armata

Synopsis: The epic “Death of Captain America” tale hits its penultimate chapter … and the final battle between the New Captain America and the people who killed Steve Rogers begins here!

Opinion: The mismatch of villains that has successfully murdered Steve Rogers crippled the American economy and is in the process of rigging the 2008 election is finally starting to make mistakes. Without giving anything away I can tell you, our most esteemed readers, that the ultimate alliance of Cap’s most powerful enemies is finally starting to show some cracks in the armor as dissent flairs up between the megalomaniac evil doers.

Captain America #40
Storyline: The Man Who Bought America part 4
Date: July 16th, 2008
Price: $2.99 US
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Steve Epting

Synopsis: It’s Cap versus Cap for the future of the American Dream as the Red Skull looks on in laughter! And Bucky learns the true identity of the man behind the other mask! The epic Death of Captain America continues in Part Four of “The Man Who Bought America” by the acclaimed team of Brubaker and Epting.

Opinion: If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck and acts like a duck than it’s probably a duck. Fortunately for us, the man who looks and sounds like the former Steve Rogers is acting nothing like the late Sentinel of Liberty. He’s mean, aggressive and is thoroughly beating the hell out of James (Bucky) Barnes.

Storyline: “It Happened One Night”

Price: $2.99
Writer: Jeph Loeb
Artists: Tim Sale and Dave Stewart

Synopsis: Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, the Eisner award winning team (DAREDEVIL: YELLOW, SPIDER-MAN: BLUE, HULK: GRAY, Batman: The Long Halloween, Superman For All Seasons, Television’s HEROES) return to Marvel and their prestigious “color” book series. CAPTAIN AMERICA: WHITE is their newest creation, peeling back an untold tale of Captain America and Bucky during World War II. Their unique combination of in-depth characters and high stakes action shines here with Cap’s deadliest mission of all. Marvel is proud to bring you Captain America: #0 this summer as a taste of what’s to come. Featuring an all new full story about the Origin of Bucky Barnes and how he came into Cap’s life, this special edition features a plethora of extras. They are happy to be back at Marvel and we’re thrilled to have them!

Opinion: I am a HUGE fan of the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale combo. These guys have produced some classics, folks. So for me—someone who hasn’t had much exposure to Captain America—this prologue to an upcoming six-issue mini-series called Captain America: White is a great and alluring way to get into the mythos.

And as expected, this comic delivers. Read more after the jump!

Captain America #39

Storyline: The Man Who Bought America part 3
Date: June 25, 2008
Price: $2.99 US
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Steve Epting

Synopsis: Okay, what the heck is going on here? Is that two guys in Captain America outfits? Yeah, it is.
More than that, we cannot say.   The epic Death of Captain America continues in Part Three of “The Man Who Bought America” by the acclaimed team of Brubaker and Epting.

Opinion: As bleak as many view the current status of these United States, things are that much worse as they are portrayed within Captain America.  Steve Rogers (the original Cap) has been assassinated, the economy is in shambles and the Red Skull has set up a third party presidential candidate whose numbers soar in the atmosphere of fear and mistrust.

It is under these circumstances that a new Captain America has risen. James (Bucky) Barnes has claimed the mantle from his mentor and now stands against the hordes at the city’s gates. However, Dr. Faustus has set up another heir apparent.
