Storyline: Amazons Attack! (part 6 of 6)
Date: August 29, 2007
Price: $2.99 US / $3.65 CAN
Writer: Will Pfeifer
Artist: Pete Woods
Synopsis: It’s all-out carnage and mayhem as all factions in the war fight the final battle! Wonder Woman takes on Hippolyta in a duel that can have only one outcome; the true reasons behind the war are discovered; and the gods make their presence known in a terrible way! Change is afoot in the DCU, and some big changes are about to happen here!
Opinion: I’ve never been happy with IGN’s comic reviews, and this is one of the reasons why: Needlessly harsh reviews. Okay, so Amazons Attacks wasn’t Infinite Crisis. But you know what? It was enjoyable. It had a few skips along the way, but once it got going, it was good. This issue manages to tie things up really well and doesn’t end anti-climatically. Plus, it answers the question of just why Athena seemed strange recently. And why is that?
I can’t tell you. It’d be a massive, massive spoiler. Needless to say, it was a surprise. Major twist, that caught me so off guard, I went ‘huh?’, then laughed histerically at the sheer surprise of it. It’s a good surprise and explans a lot. And I’ll say this, it involves a villian Wonder Woman has had history with before, but not one you’d suspect off the top of your head…generally.
All in all, this issue does two things. 1. It sets up a lot of stuff for a lot of places, some for Wonder Woman, some for Countdown. 2. It proves that a Summer event CAN come out and be done…IN SUMMER. It didn’t get delayed for a year, and it’s actually DONE (unlike Civil War), so it at least has that going for it. I liked it, and while it’s not a ‘need to get’, it’s certainly not a bad thing if you have little extra cash to invest.

Synopsis: The action ratchets up across five issues in August guest-starring Zatanna, the Teen Titans, the JLA, Poison Ivy, the Penguin, the Atom and more! Karate Kid ventures to Oracle for answers. Jimmy Olsen attempts to join not one but two exclusive clubs. Mary Marvel falls deeper into temptation. And Donna Troy and Jason Todd journey into the Nanoverse! Plus, starting in COUNTDOWN 38, a series of backup stories recounting the origins of DC’s greatest villians, written by Scott Beatty (BATGIRL: YEAR ONE)!
Opinion: Marvel Marvel is naughty and I’m not just talking about that sexy little black number she’s been sporting around in over the past few months. Things get nasty between her and Zatanna and not in a sorority girls pillow-fight sort of way either. I like! In the “Palmerverse” Atom, Jason Todd, Donna Troy and Bob the Monitor fight some magically-powered bugs. Whatever. Poison Ivy has Piper and Trickster on lock-down, with an awesome cameo appearance to boot. A great issue by and large. remeber kids, it’s all building up to FINAL CRISIS so you can have earth shattering revelations in every issue. Sometimes you just got to have magic bugs.
