A Red Mass For Mars #1
Story Line: Eternity
Date: June 11th 2008
Price: $3.50
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Ryan Bodenheim

Synopsis: From the mind of comic book innovator JONATHAN HICKMAN and pen of super-talent and Image debutant RYAN BODENHEIM comes A RED MASS FOR MARS. In a world that has survived every catastrophe imaginable, a new threat from beyond stars looks to be the end of all humanity.

A RED MASS FOR MARS is a story about the death of utopia, the last days of Earth and the one man who could save us all - but won’t.

Opinion: Adding another interesting book from the unique mind of Jonathan Hickman to Image Comics’ excellent job of publishing awesome stuff lately, A Red Mass For Mars proves itself so far to be quite an original mini series.  This book, introducing (as far as I know) a new timelines, new characters, new situations and new concepts seems a bit thin for the included content.  It doesn’t feel as fleshed out as it could be for the weight of the story.  Nevertheless, it’s quite compelling, and the read was enjoyable.

Synopsis: Having successfully created the worlds first enhanced humans, two rival companies have to navigate the sketchy world of venture capitalists in order to secure the necessary funding to take their their companies public. Hi-larious.

Opinion: Transhuman continues to impress as Jonathan Hickman and JM Ringuet bring to life the faux documentary, exploring the freakish setting of Miami and the treacherous waters of venture capital ambition.

Transhuman_1_cover
Storyline: Discovery
Date: March 19, 2008
Price: $3.50 US
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: JM Ringuet

Synopsis: Transhuman is a story that covers the discovery of superhuman genetic engineering, the companies built on the back of that discovery and the marketing war to bring it into each and every one of our homes. It is a mockumentary told in the same vein as the great Christopher Guest movies Spinal Tap and Best in Show.

Opinion: You know that feeling - when you’re browsing the new comic rack and you see a new title hiding in between the 50 event books and the multiple x-men, batman and superman titles. You have a twinge of hesitation because you don’t know how to feel about risking an extra few dollars because this book just might suck…or at the very least go away without a sound right after you got invested.

But… every once in a while a new book comes around that makes you happy to be a comic book fan, and glad you’re willing to snatch new books off the shelf and try them out. I have to say, Transhuman is one of those books!
