StumpedHello and welcome to our weekly wrap-up! “But it’s Tuesday!” you say? Yes, but everyone knows that the week doesn’t officially start until tomorrow: New Comics Day!

Hello there, long time, no see huh?  Yeah ComicNerd has been getting the stepchild treatment as school & work has demanded more of my time.  Fortunately, I have had some excellent help from our key writers Stephanie and Red Padilla!  They have done an awesome job keeping new stuff up for you guys - This site would be in big trouble without those two.  Be sure to comment on their articles guys!  Conversation is what keeps this site so exciting.  It’s easy, free and you don’t even have to register - so talk to your writers!

Speaking of writers, it looks like I need to recruit some more.  We’re losing some due to time constraints and others due to the same obligations I have.  We’re always looking for more - so if you are interested in writing for the site, please feel free to contact me and let me know what you’re interested in.

Other than that, not too much to cover right now with the downswing everyone has going on.  I promise this will change over time, we’re experiencing growing pains while we have minimal manpower.  It’s actually a pretty common problem with sites this size.  Stick it out with us dear readers, it can only get better!

Ok, let’s get started with what’s up…

StumpedHello and welcome to our weekly wrap-up! “But it’s Tuesday!” you say? Yes, but everyone knows that the week doesn’t officially start until tomorrow: New Comics Day!

Well, ComicCon San Diego came and went.  Unfortunately we didn’t have any coverage of the event other than what other sites were reporting.  I have been reading up on all of the stuff coming through the pipeline.  Here is a breakdown of some of the things I have read about that I didn’t feel were worth posting about (we really need a reporter on staff or something, April O’Niel, where are you!?).   None of these nuggets of info have any links attached.  Why?  Because this site is like a swirling vortex of DOOM, and you shall never escape!

  • DC editor Dan Didio accidentally let it slip that the next storyline after Batman R.I.P. will be “Battle for the Cowl”.
  • Neil Gaman will be writing Batman, presumably after Morrisson does away with Bruce Wayne
  • Mark Millar will be returning to the Ultimate Universe.
  • Marvel is getting nostalgic.  Along with the return of Dazzler in Uncanny X-Men, we’re also going to see the return of Cloak and Dagger.
  • SDCC showed the debut of two seperate trailers; TR2N, the sequel to cult classic Tron.  The crowd goes NUTS when Jeff Bridges shows up on screen.
  • An X-Men Origins: Wolverine teaser trailer was also shown, hard to hear with all the crowd screaming and the shaky cellphone cam.

I tracked down both of these trailers on the internet and the quality of them is SO poor that I am not going to even bother posting them until there are better quality ones available.  Why?  Well, frankly I was disappointed in the Wolverine teaser, and after watching it a couple of times I realized that there is a very distinct possibility that the teaser was showing scenes where there should be CGI applied, but there is none yet.  I believe showing this teaser now to anyone but the most RABID fans will lead to a lot of backlash (as can be seen right now on many comic forums where people are critiquing the clothes, the height and the friggin hair color).

Anyhoo, time to solicit some more writers.  We have a pretty solid staff here right now, but we need someone who has the time and inclination to do some actual media updates.  Comic Reviews are one thing, but we need someone rumor and news hungry to be posting little tidbits like the ones above on a regular basis.  Come fall, I plan on hiting up the local colleges to find a journalism major who would find this a great way to cut their teeth, but if I can find someone driven to do this sort of the thing right now, all the better!  Anyway, if you’re crazy about comic and movie news and you love reading up on and would enjoy writing about all the hype - contact us!  We would love to add you to the team.

Ok, let’s get started with what’s up…

StumpedHello and welcome to our weekly wrap-up! “But it’s Tuesday!” you say? Yes, but everyone knows that the week doesn’t officially start until tomorrow: New Comics Day!

What an exciting time to be a ComicNerd!!!  First we had Iron Man, then the Incredible Hulk then Hellboy 2: The Golden Army and now we get The Dark Knight!  To top all of that comic movie goodness off, we also get the exciting debut of Uncanny X-Men #500!!!  I am SO excited for this!

Speaking of The Dark Knight, hopefully by now you have paid your way into the IMAX experience and taken in Nolan’s sequel.  If you’re lucky you’ve seen it more than once and even if not, it looks like people are enjoying it.  Well, ComicNerd has an exclusive HUGE review of The Dark Knight up right now.  GO READ IT RIGHT AWAY!

Now, I want to touch on this.  I know ComicNerd is a comic book review site, and I do apologize that we have been a bit gobbled up by the movie excitement going on.  Seems like it’s just a Batman movie blog lately, huh?  Well, not to worry; we will be continuing our regularly scheduled comic book reviews starting tomorrow. We will be starting with Mice Templar #5, reviewed by our very own Greg “Red” Padilla, who also needs to be congratulated for getting a letter published in Mice Templar this month!  Good job man!

Also, our very own talented writer Stephanie did a great interview with Top Cow’s new series writer of Broken Trinity , Ron Marz.  Congrats Stephanie!

Ok, let’s get started with what’s up…

Hello everyone, welcome to what should be the middle of summer, but it sure doesn’t feel like it with the goofy weather going on around the world!  I know here our heat hadn’t officially started until about a week ago, very strange indeed.

Well, this is it - this Friday is the day some (if not most) of us have been looking to for over a year: The Dark Knight.  It’s all I can think about.  I cannot wait to see this movie.  Unfortunately, I missed out on getting tickets for the Thursday showing at my local IMAX.  I’m pretty bummed out, but what can you do?  Anyway, I am confident it’s going to be an amazing experience.  I just hope I’m not going in convinced it’s going to be a good movie and be dissapointed.

Something important to note.  It appears the site has been having some loading trouble.  I believe I fixed it by removing the recent comments plugin that used to be on the sidebar, but if you experience any load issues please let us know!

StumpedHello and welcome to our weekly wrap-up! “But it’s Tuesday!” you say? Yes, but everyone knows that the week doesn’t officially start until tomorrow: New Comics Day!

Hello!  I hope you had a fun and safe Fourth of July.  I ended up nerding out this weekend and watching the fireworks above Stormwind city instead of actually going out and doing anything.  I felt pretty pathetic doing so, but my reasons for staying in alst weekend were noble at least; college homework!  Anyway, as a result of the holiday I believe that comics are not shipping until Thursday of this week.  So don’t be silly like me and go in on Wednesday only to be let down!

ComicNerd is just exploding in popularity lately.  I cannot believe how many readers are passing through this site, with new comments every day by all sorts of new readers.  None of this would be possible without the hard work of all of the writers on staff here at ComicNerd.  Please do what you can to make their time worthwhile and comment on their posts and tell your friends about this site!

In that same vein, I have another new addition to the writing team here at ComicNerd.  I am proud to announce that Clayton520 has joined our ranks as an official ComicNerd writer!  Clayton brings a deep and rich understanding of the Marvel Universe, specifically the Avengers mythos, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the Secret Invasion event going on right now

Let’s hear more about ComicNerd’s newest writing staff member:

After a failed attempt of arguing the socialistic tendencies of Captain America, I have accepted my fate as a writer, critic, and purveyor of all things weird.

I began writing film reviews in my mid teens and have been doing it ever since. I am a film snob of the highest order but I particularly enjoy cult films (Blade Runner Eraserhead, ect…). Several of my short stories have been published and I am hoping to complete a longer work of fiction sometime before I am 30.

Comics came into my life only a few years ago when I picked up a copy of Civil War and have been hooked ever since. Marvel is the name of the game as far as I am concerned, but I am always willing to pick up a good indie issue or two.

Currently, I am working towards my masters in English. However, most of my time and energy goes into my fiction, a book on the most overrated films in history and my comic production company Ruin Comics, which I confounded with Greg Padilla.

You can read more about my work and reach me  at either my website or blog.

We’re looking for more writers! If you or anyone you know might be interested in writing for ComicNerd - hit me up!

Welcome to Variant Watch where each week I’ll be discussing the new hot variant covers of the week.  As all comic collector’s know, each week on Wednesday Comic book Santa Claus flies around to every comic shop in the world delivering that week’s new comics and there is much celebration.

Now the avid collectors also know that with each shipment of new comics comes a select few variant covers of regular issues.  Why are they special you ask?  No, not because they cost two-to-fifty times that of the regular issues.  Variants are rare and “rare” is a word that comic collectors both love and hate.  When you have a “rare” book you love it.  When you are looking at “rare” books on Ebay and questioning your station in life because you can’t even picture a time when you’ll be able to drop $500.00 on a comic book, “rare” can be an awful term.

StumpedHello and welcome to our weekly wrap-up! “But it’s Tuesday!” you say? Yes, but everyone knows that the week doesn’t officially start until tomorrow: New Comics Day!

Hello there!  I know you must hate me for not doing Monday Movie Mayhem! yesterday, I sincerely apologize.  Lots of stuff, good and bad have happened this week.  We lost two pop culture icons; George Carlin to heart failure and Michael Turner to cancer.  This truly has been a sad week.  George Carlin was one of the staples of my adolescence, getting me in trouble at school as I repeated his aphorisms at school and Michael Turner’s covers have always inspired me to pull comics off the shelves and into my buy pile, his art was always simply exquisite.  Both men have accomplished the one thing many die trying to accomplish, the touching of others’ lives.

On a lighter note, today marks the first day of July, and besides the arrival of Uncanny X-Men #500; it also marks the end of ComicNerd’s Ghost Rider giveaway!  Unfortunately, the script reset the numbers at midnight last night, so I could not get final numbers!

The last time I looked, Stephanie was in the lead with 208 and redhollywood was the runner up at 185, but that could have changed!  Please set me straight if you can, if not I will assume Stephanie had the most posts and give her the choice between #15 and #50.

Either way both of you guys had a ton of posts!  This site has been ALIVE this last month, and I have you guys to thank!

So congratulations Stephanie and redhollywood!  I hope you enjoy your awesome comics!

StumpedHello and welcome to our weekly wrap-up! “But it’s Tuesday!” you say? Yes, but everyone knows that the week doesn’t officially start until tomorrow: New Comics Day!

This has been a ridiculously busy week. In between a surgery I have been trying to get caught up on homework AND make sure this site keeps running. Now that ComicNerd has some solid writers on board (and MORE on the way) I can no longer afford to just let the site sit idle - we gotta keep publishing! It doesn’t hurt that everything about comics is so exciting right now, one just has to look at Monday Movie Mayhem! posted yesterday to catch just a small glimpse of that. Speaking of comic movies, let me gently, no… forcefully point you to ComicNerd’s very first movie review - The Incredible Hulk!

But enough about movies, today is about comics!

There are only 6 days left in the Ghost Rider Contest - it’s going to get intense as the two top posters battle it out as the end of the month draw near.  Stay tuned for an announcement concerning next month’s giveaway!

This week I am proud to announce another new addition to the editing team, Mbomb! With him joining our team, it looks like we will finally have someone knowledgable about DC!  I am so excited about this, as I felt ComicNerd definately needed some help in this department.  Hopefully starting this week Mbomb will also be contributing a regular weekly column covering variant comics and touching upon the comic book market.

Let’s hear more about ComicNerd’s newest writing staff member:

Howdy Nerds!  Matt Baum (Mbomb), nice to meet ya’s. I’ve been the staff comic book writer at Worthpoint.com for a little more than a year now where I write a couple of blogs a week about comic collecting and trends in the back-issue market.  To think my parents said a Journalism degree would never pay off, look at me now dad…  Yes I’m writing for free and yes it’s still about comics…  Anyway, before college and culinary school, both of which I’m still finishing, I managed a comic shop for 7 years while touring as  a drummer in a few different bands.

I started reading comics at a very young age and, with the exception of a brief stint where I was too cool for my own good, have ever since.  Currently I work part time helping out at a small shop in Omaha called Legend Comics.  You can find me there ranting and raving every Thursday night.  Feel free to stop by and say hey.

Other wise you can catch my coffee-and-speed-metal induced rants right here on Comicnerd.com.  I’ll be writing reviews, looking at business trends of the comic market and generally screaming and yelling about your favorite funny books.  I thrive on feedback so tell me what you guys think.  If you agree with me then feed my ego.   If not, then threaten my life.  I can take it.  After all, we’re nerds, and for some of us our comics are the only thing that keep us going.  sniff…  sniff…

We’re looking for more writers! If you or anyone you know might be interested in writing for ComicNerd - hit me up!

This site has just been bursting with new stuff everyday thanks to the new additions.  I hope that you as readers enjoy the increase in cool stuff to look at and do here at ComicNerd, and as always you have the ability almost everywhere on this site to be heard, so let us know what you think!

Ok, let’s get started with what’s up…
