Synopsis: Part one of “War of the Symbiotes” starts off rather slow. It’s mostly a catch up of where Eddie Brock Jr. has been since we saw him back in issue #39. Although I suppose if you count Ultimate Spiderman the video game as canon, then essentially you’re reading a skewed version of that great game. Anyway the entire issue is merely a recap, not really important yet. Might be down the line, though.
Opinion: This issue was dull. I mean, it was still good, but it was merely a recap. Not worth the 3 dollars and change to purchase it. It has a Forest Gump feel, but the endearing quality Tom Hanks had is completely lost when the “Gump” is a parasitic monster who feeds on human beings.
No, I was certainly hoping for more when I saw this on the stands. I love Venom to no end. Hell I even loved Venom in Spiderman 3 and that’s saying something.
However, this return of Venom just didn’t do it for me. I think it may be that this isn’t the Todd McFarlane Venom I grew up on. He isn’t some twisted muscle bound twit who dogs Spiderman to no end. No, this is a confused college student who nearly is a pig and only hates Spiderman due to the aforementioned confusion. We’ll see if he grows on me next month, but so far, I am not wowed.
