Batman Death mask 3
Storyline: Death Mask (part 3 of 4)
Date: June 4, 2008
Price: $2.99 US

Writer: Yoshinori Natsume
Artist: Yoshinori Natsume

Synopsis: The mystery of the deadly masks is uncovered, as the killer reveals his long-standing deep-rooted connection to the Dark Knight and the time they spent together as students in Japan years ago.

Opinion: Here we are on number three of Yoshinori Natsume’s Batman: Death Mask! This issue, the third in a series of four, and where normal books lose their luster was absolutely intriguing! We get to go on a narrative ride, learning more about Natsume’s story as it unravels before us. This issue is packed full of awesome action sequences, well placed panels that tell the story well and clear and crisp artwork through and through.

There was a bit of confusion at the end for me, but once it clicked I got even more interested in picking up #4.

Batman Death Mask 2
Storyline: Death Mask (part 2 of 4)
Date: May 7, 2008
Price: $2.99 US

Writer: Yoshinori Natsume
Artist: Yoshinori Natsume

Synopsis: The all-new original manga from the acclaimed Yoshinori Natsume continues! Bruce Wayne must confront his past and examine how the time he spent in Japan as a young man training to become Batman affected him…and whether his experiences then somehow led to the killer now rampaging throughout the underworld in Gotham.

Opinion: Let me just start off by saying that I am thoroughly enjoying this book. The art continues to be fantastic and as we near the middle of the plot; where things tend to get stale in other mini series, the story remains interesting and the depth of all of the characters involved remains an integral part of the story rather than simple distractions or filler.

In this issue we see some more of the origins of Batman as an alter ego, as well as more of what we expect of Bruce Wayne, and the darkness that drives him. I really enjoyed catching a glimpse of Bruce Wayne’s formation, it did wax a bit Batman Begins, but it certainly fits the story.

Batman: Death Mask
Storyline: Death Mask (part 1 of 4)
Date: April 9, 2008
Price: $2.99 US

Writer: Yoshinori Natsume
Artist: Yoshinori Natsume

Synopsis:
Acclaimed artist Yoshinori Natsume (Toguri) makes his American comics debut with this Prestige Format miniseries that presents an original Batman manga tale! There’s a new serial killer in Gotham, and he may have ties to the training Bruce Wayne acquired as a young man in Japan. Does the murderer know Bruce Wayne is the Batman?

Opinion: Natsume puts several of today’s artists and writers to shame by covering the artwork and writing on a limited series all by himself.  Batman: Death Mask is a treat and should not be passed up.  Read my full review after the jump.
