Story Line: Ongoing
Date: June 11th 2008
Price: $2.99
Writer: B. Clay Moore
Artist: Carlo Barberi and Drew Geraci
Synopsis: Casey Blue is an average high school senior — she studies hard with an eye toward college, enjoys extracurricular sports, and likes spending time with friends and family…until the moment she savagely murders a stranger with her bare hands, leading to revelations about her role in preventing a full-scale invasion of earth! The only problem? She has no idea she’s humanity’s salvation!
Opinion: Casey blue issue #1 is a must read! The HUGE twist in the middle is totally worth your time and money. I don’t even have a good example of the story to help you decide for yourself whether or not its a good buy. I will say that if you are new to the comic industry or are just tired of the same old crap this is a story line to get into.
Read my full review after the jump.
Most of the comics I read have previous character development in older stories. This is great if you follow those characters but for some one just getting into the comic book industry it’s really hard to follow sometimes because you don’t know the character’s history. The inside jokes are especially annoying, I have NO IDEA where they get some of their material!
Casey Blue is a totally different comic. First the book gives you time to get to know Casey, some character development is always nice! *hint*hint* This allows the reader to connect with Casey and makes the shock at the end even more incredible. Casey is a normal teenage girl with kind loving parents, an overprotective brother and the usual problems of a teenage girl. AKA boys, friends, school, finding herself etc… The reader really gets to know her and can empathize with her. Frak! I was just like that at 17!
I guess I should have been on the lookout for something potentially different since the comic did start with a funeral but I figured it would be the same old, “oh my gosh, all of a sudden I can fly” crap that all teenage superheros experience. Boy was I wrong! I really want you to read this so I’m not going to spoil it but trust me when I say that this is not a comic you want to miss, I can’t wait for the next issue!

6Just for the record guys I think for a new reader this is an enticing book because it’s fresh ground. For people like us it might be a good one to buy #1-3 all at once so you can get a better picture.
I read it and didn’t agree 100% with omg_, I thought it was pretty interesting but a bit more taste of the back-story driving the plot should have been in there… which is a typical gripe of #1 issues….
