Opinion: Want something fresh, easy to get into, and totally worth your money? With all the craziness surrounding “Batman RIP” these days, Nightwing is a fantastic way to go. Read my full review after the jump!
I was VERY impressed with this comic. The art is simply gorgeous, through and through; the writing is excellent. I haven’t read any of the Nightwing comics lately, but this was very easy to get into. Sure, there were a couple of things I wasn’t sure about (that’s to be expected), but nothing that detracted from the overall experience. And the writing is good enough that I could catch on to the storyline and really follow it with intrigue—even if this is a conclusion issue. Now that’s just a good comic.
It starts off with Nightwing (aka Dick Grayson, the first Robin) swimming underwater, when he comes across dozens of dead bodies. Freaky. On land, he searches for any clues to where Dr. Creighton might be. Who is Creighton? I’m not exactly sure, but the basics are revealed to the reader (or refreshed, if you’re already familiar with the storyline) as the comic progresses. It’s quite nice: you’re never in a real or terrible state of confusion. The writing is handled very nicely.
Anyway, he runs into none other than Talia Al Ghul—Ra’s Al Ghul’s beautiful daughter and the mother of Batman’s son, Damian. (Let’s all thank Grant Morrison for reviving that much ignored fiasco.) Now, I don’t want to give anything away in this issue because it’s great and you should definitely check it out if you can. But it’s solid all the way through, and you even get to see a little of—who’d have guessed it—Superman at the end.
