Opinion: This comic was great! From the inside artwork to the story and down to the cover, I liked pretty much everything about this comic. I admit I’m not caught up on the whole Skrull invasion thing, but I thought this was cool.
Read the rest of my review after the jump!
The comic starts off with narration set thirteen hours after the invasion and it’s done by two characters: Ben Urich and Jonathan Bryant. However, the comic itself recaps what happens to three characters—besides Ben and Jonathan, there’s a guy named Vincent—on the day leading up to the attack. Because Ben and Jonathan are providing post-invasion narration, it’s clear that at least those two, if not the other character as well, meet up sometime during the chaos. It’s likely that we’ll see their stories intertwine.
I like how everything is drawn, from Spider-Man and Green Goblin in the beginning to Captain America near the end and the Skrulls themselves. The grittiness of the colors fits the tone of the comic well, conforming nicely to a sort of “in the eye of the storm” feel, if you get my meaning.
The story is really interesting, and I wasn’t bored for one minute. I realize there’s a lot of Secret Invasion stuff going on right now that I’m out of the loop on, and maybe it’s just because this is my first direct exposure that I’m excited—but maybe you should just pick this up and decide for yourself. I think it’s definitely worth three bucks. Unless, of course, you’re just plain sick of Skrulls or Secret Invasion.

But if you’re new to the whole thing like me, then this is a fantastic comic to get you started.
