Synopsis: The internationally acclaimed best seller continues! Finally free from her life of servitude, Noa, our sexy Sky Doll, finds that the missionaries who helped free her may not have her best interests in mind. When the group arrives on an underwater world for a “pit stop”, Noa discovers she may have been left out to dry. But she’s not just some “wet behind the ears” android as she proves she knows her way around weapons and isn’t afraid to use them to insure she’s not soon drowning in a watery grave!

Opinion: Soliel’s Sky Doll series continues to impress as we see more of the universe Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa have brought to life. The character depth mixed with the excellent reign over meticulous facial expressions and the beautifully detailed backgrounds all make for such an excellent book.

This book so far, while pricey; has been exquisite. I would almost say ‘worth every penny’, but $5.99 is just a tad bit too much in my opinion.

Read my full review after the jump.

We witness Lodovica losing her grip on the people’s adoration, and as she reaches out for some comfort and solace in a lover’s arms, we see that a detailed plan to destroy her on many levels is slowly put into effect. I’m not entirely sure I liked how this was presented. It seemed a bit vague and I think it accented the wrong aspect of the relationship between these two. I guess it’s up to reader perception, but it does seem like a sneaky way to get some sex into the book for the wrong reasons.

On the other hand, the treatment of Roy and his high expectations of a Utopian society and his reaction as we see the facade slip away into what can only be perceived as an exaggeration on Scientology is really quite interesting. I loved the disillusioned Roy and Noa bumping heads on the merits of the society they’ve caught a glimpse on, and the reaction of the two as they become witness to the truth of the situation.

Furthermore, there are some powerful moments after it is revealed that Jahu is there for less than honorable intentions. The pacing of this book approaches perfection, and even the cliché of a secret Jahu possesses is treated as an aspect of importance and relevance to the story.

I am now convinced that American readers are at a serious disadvantage. With Natsume’s Batman: Death Mask from DC and Sky Dolls from marvel being ported over to the states for our consumption these last two months, I have been exposed to pure talent. Thank you Marvel, thank you DC.

One thing that does worry me though is that it didn’t feel like much of the core plot was touched upon in this issue, specifically Noa’s connection to Agape.  I’m concerned that with only three installments, things might feel a bit rushed next issue.  That is unless this is part of further mini series plans, but if that is the case, why not just make it a regular series?

I guess we’ll just have to see.
