Story Line: Absolute Power Part 2 (of 4)
Date: June 18th 2008
Price: $2.99
Writer: Aron Coleite
Artist: Mark Brooks
Synopsis: Last issue we were introduced to Mutant Growth Hormone…I mean Banshee. This issue sees the rogue group of X-Men going after Northstar and Alpha Flight. There’s a little origin overhaul, as well.
Opinion: First off let me say this, I have not enjoyed the Ultimate X-Men since #66, when Kirkman took over. Now that Coleite has taken the reigns, he may very well be able to save this sinking ship. However, this issue did little to wow me.
Read my full review after the jump.
I’m not going to spoil anything for anyone, but I’m sick of recons and origin overhauls. Stick with something that works and just use it! This issue sees yet another origin touch up, just like Colossus’ from last issue. It really irks me off, however at least they are sticking with Millars origin ideas that Cyclops wasn’t always a boy scout.
Now as for the art, fantastic. I’m never really disappointed with the art in the Ultimate line. Except for Ultimates 3, but that’s something else entirely. On the down side, the designs for the drugged out X-Men were quite…dull. They could have been better. I mean, a giant eagle for Angel? Bah.
So to sum up, there very well could be good things happening down the line. But this issue was only slightly better than the last couple of turds that have made it to print.

1its a shame that robert didn’t do better with Ultimate. He is such a good writer. Im sure he was concentrating more on his own titles and Marvel took a back seat.

3Haha, what a relief. Cyclops is too much of a Mr. Tight Pants.
What? Angel as an eagle? Gah!

8they sure would. someone needs to write a comic about a serial killer with the ability to teleport. He would be insanely hard to catch and could have an alibi for every murder. If there isn’t one already done.

9Hahaha, whoa. But hmm, it would be kind of cool to see a comic about a super villain whose powers get him out every time. Morally wrong, probably, but it’s a cool idea for a comic.
Maybe you could work on something like that next, Red!
Hehe, right. You should probably stick to the one you’re working on now before that, huh? Hey, just shooting out some suggestions. >:D
