Synopsis: The Invasion is here!! The Marvel Universe is in shambles. The Skrull Empire’s plan has birthed itself into perfection. It is hero versus hero!! Resurrections and reunions!! Is Tony Stark a Skrull? And is that actually Captain America leading the heroes into a new era?? EXPECT CHANGE!!
Opinion: Well, to put it lightly, the #!@& has hit the fan!!! We see heroes old and new squaring off, but that is not news to anyone, you just knew after the end of Secret Invasion #1 that there was bound to be a smackdown. What we didn’t expect was the return of a sexy bird thought long dead at the hands of Mephisto and Hawkeye wraps his hands around the familiar to save her! The part featuring Tony Stark going to work seemed a bit cheesy, especially since it brought up memories from the recent Iron Man flick. I also want to point out the page where the old vs. new hero smackdown gets interrupted - I don’t want to spoil anything… but not ONE bubble? Absolutely no one, Skrull or otherwise was surprised by that interruption!?
Click through the jump to read my full review of Secret Invasion #2, including the weird things that were said and done and wtf is going on with Luke Cage!
Ok, we get it, we don’t know who to trust, we don’t know wtf is up with the classic heroes, and we don’t know why this is all happening - but Ares’ reaction was extremely strange, and I mean really strange. I may have missed something, but I don’t know how he was getting his information, unless psychic powers were somehow added to his roster of abilities. If I missed something, please do fill me in - but that little tirade of his made very little sense to me.
Also, the reaction of the Young Avengers - what the hell was that about? A full panel of them just standing there with the same facial expression? That was truly weird, even if it is part of their characters - just …strange.
I want to mention Luke Cage’s limited vocabulary, it was very funny to see that thrown out there, and the reaction to modern Luke Cage was priceless. WORD.
Finally, the very last spread is awesome and makes you wish #3 was right on top of the pile of things to read! What is up with those getups? Why would the Skrulls need to be both overt and covert???
Overall this issue was great, very interesting and the story while a bit weak here and there is overall pacing nicely, the art is pretty dang good and you can just tell everyone is having fun with this book, including me, the reader.
My recommendation is to not miss out on this Invasion!
