Synopsis: The latest offering from the Marvel Knights line concludes!
For untold years, Norrin Radd surfed the galaxy, exploring the darkness between stars, witnessing the rise and fall of vast civilizations. Now his ride comes to an end. Zenn-La, the planet of his birth, the planet he saved through his own sacrifice — the Silver Surfer crossed the galaxy to draw his last breath here. He’s home. What waits for him?
Opinion: While the idea of killing off Silver Surfer, especially after the commercial success of Fantastic Four 2, does not strike me as a smart idea nor good timing, I have to say this mini series had some exceptional writing, of course. Once again Straczynski delivers! And the artwork is simply breathtaking. It rings a bit of Alex Ross, but the style stands alone enough to add to Esad Ribic’s portfolio. The interaction between Silver Surfer and old allies such as Spider-Man and Reed Richards is intimate and meaningful, and the tributary tone of the books lends quite a bit to Surfer’s legacy. This final issue though is a bit short, and seems to be a quick wrap-up to what could go on for about one more issue.
With all this said, I couldn’t help but feel like it was a waste of time and money, as it’s just too hard to believe that Marvel would kill off Silver Surfer.
Who knows, though - things have been pretty weird at the house of ideas as of late.

1Another horrible editorial decission by Quesada. “Kill ‘em all,” must be his mantra at staff meetings. Quesada out of Marvel now!!! He is killing/ruining the pantheon of the classic Marvel heroes. These “brilliant” creative decisions are coming from a guy (Quesada) who didn’t even star reading comics until well into his twenties. He has no idea what the heroes mean to us, and isf he does, it’s a good bet that he doesn’t care. Surfer deserves better than this. Not good storytelling, it’s psuedo-hackery. Marvel needs a change, I need to look forward to reading Marvel comics again, not dread what an idiot might do to them.
