The latest in X-Men movie news is a bit disconcerting, and it looks like Marvel and 20th Century Fox are looking into resetting the X-Men movie franchise with a brand new film rebooting the series and picking up on the heroes’ collective history as we see the formation of the X-Men.And who else would be ideal to pilot the tedious and tumultuous waters of teen angst and bitter drama than Josh Schwartz, the creator of Gossip Girl and The O.C.. According to some reports, he has hopped on board to pen the formation of the X-Men and their first days with Professor X.
I don’t know about another origin story. I think everyone can agree that we were all a bit excited to see War Machine bust out in Iron Man, and it stinks we have to wait to see what happens in the sequel + what this Nick Fury cameo could mean down the road. Origin stories are great for comics, but for movies they can be tedious. It could be better to put together a new movie to attempt what Marvel’s trying to do with The Incredible Hulk, and in effect pretend like that horrible crap that was X-Men 3 never happened. It just seems a bit weird that on the heels of Hugh Jackman’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine we’re going to see another origin story wrapped in drama. No thanks!
What do you think? Is it better to reboot the X-Men franchise and have a writer who specializes in dramatic stories come along and breathe new life into the franchise?

1Ugh, are you serious? No, damnit, we need Bryan Singer back, that’s all.
Well, a reboot would be better than having Brett Ratner ever again …

2AGREED, Singer needs to go away from Superman and BACK to X-men, but unfortunately it’s not going to happen.
X3 was such crap, and I’m glad SOMEONE agrees with me on that.
