Hello everyone, sorry I haven’t been throwing a bunch of cool stuff up here lately. Things are so busy at work I seem to be scrounging for the time.
Anyway, this is awesome, it’s the first teaser trailer for Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, due in 2009.
It seems kinda silly at first, like it’s just killing time, and then about halfway through you realize there’s a lot of time left and a lot of interesting and cool things are shown that tease the story and the elements therein.
What do you think? Is the “most celebrated story in comics” about as hype-worthy as The Dark Knight?

1I saw this earlier today. It’s pretty awesome-looking. I’ve never actually read Watchmen, but! I did just get the graphic novel, so I’m going to start reading it. =)

2The Watchmen is without a doubt the crowning achievement in the graphic novel genre. To see that Zack Snyder, the mindless director who brought two of the dumbest movies in recent years, Dawn of the Dead remake and the 300 is, well, sad.
I’m not getting my hopes up for this one. At all.

3Ohh, man, then that sucks. We’ll have to wait and see, then. =/

4By the way, Warner Brothers just released what their calling a “motion comic” of the Watchmen on Itunes. It’s really cool, it takes the images from the comic and adds music, narration, and voice acting.
The first issue or chapter is available free right now, and they will be releasing others every few weeks (although I think the rest will be 1.99 each). Still though, it’s definitely worth checking out because it’s a new potential medium for Comics and, after all, it is the watchmen.

7Downloaded it and I’m excited to watch it. =)
Saw it with TDK today—it was really cool on the big screen.

8I can not wait for this film. Not skeptical about the director but from the looks of the preview, it looks about right.
May not be as good as the graphic comic but I’m sure it will be quite entertaining.
Can not wait to see Rorschach on the big screen. Going to be great.

9I am not expecting a masterpeice soley because their is no way they can convery the depth and meaning of the graphic novel in movie form. There is just to much.

10I dunno, Red. Films can be extremely deep and powerful if they’re done right. It’s too early to even make assumptions, really, but you never know. We might all be surprised with this.
As for it being a masterpiece … In any medium, that’s extremely hard to achieve. As for me, I’m not going to expect it to be earth-shattering, but I’m going to have enough faith in the hopes that it will indeed be a good movie.
So fingers crossed.

11For me, I saw the tease for the first time when I saw TDK, and I have to say I was riveted to the screen. You can tell that the studio has absolutely nailed certain elements, others look a little off and a little silly. Still, I will be in line on opening day for this one. I know deep in my heart and mind that it will not move me in the ways Watchmen the comic series did, but there is too much info in the graphic novel to put in a movie unless it’s going to be 7 hours long(not that I would mind…)
The way I see it is this, if they pull a V for Vendetta on Watchmen, I will never go see a DC movie again, if they pull off a decent adaptation it will be one of the best comic movies of all time. The material is just that good.

12Source material doesn’t lead towards a good film though. Lynch’s Dune anyone?

13Ah yes, that’s why I say if they pull of a decent adaptation! If they don’t it will be the worst comic movie ever. Well, no, Dolph Lundgrens Punisher is the worst comic movie ever.

14Haha, no doubt. The punisher running around one a beach was one of the most ludicrous things I had seen since the bat nipples. I have high hopes for the new one coming out Christmas.

15I actually liked V for Vendetta, Mike, lol! I love that movie.
Clayton does have a point, actually. Some things work better in one medium than another.
But Bat nipples and Punisher on a beach don’t work in anything.

16I don’t know the Bat nipples were pretty awesome…im just saying….nah they were bad.

17Hehe, damn straight they were bad.
Well, there are worse things than Bat nipples …
… maybe.

18Well there is always the main fight scene from Ang Lee’s Hulk where hulk pretty much swims to victory.

19Steph: Don’t get me wrong, V for Vendetta wasn’t a bad movie, it was a bad adaptation. The graphic novel is so different, so much better. They just decided to change too much for the movie. Also, there are worse things than bat nipples… Exactly what those things are escape me at the moment however.
Clayton: Ooh, the Punisher movie coming out. I have hopes, they get smaller every time I watch the overly stylized teaser they put out. But still, it’s the Punisher and as long as they don’t put nipples on the shirt…
Red: Swimming to victory! HA! I love it. Truly not a good movie, I was done when the Hulk Dogs showed up.

20Okay, then you have a point. I’ve been meaning to actually read the graphic novel, but I’ve never gotten around to it yet.
Btw, this is pretty cool, guys: http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/watchmen_trailer_to_comic_comparison/
I also noticed the scene in the fountain where Ozymandias is attacking his “killer.”
