Synopsis: Marvel’s most deadly villains have a foothold in the real world—but who will believe the only person who knows the truth, when that person is a 13-year old kid named Toby who’s read way too many comic books? Fortunately, it seems that Toby has an ally—the Incredible Hulk! Can even the Hulk survive the most titanic throw-down with Juggernaut in comic book history? Find out in this epic clash of super hero action…and ponder—who is Clyde Wyncham?

Opinion: The second edition of 1985 was a little more disappointing than the first. Don’t get me wrong the art was the same style of old comic book and the story line was still very interesting but the issue seemed a little like a filler between major action issues (at least that’s my hope).

Read the full review after the jump.

My biggest problem is the narration, it tells the story but it doesn’t leave any room for action, if I wanted a story I would buy a book, what I want is pictures I want to be shown the story not told it. Not only is the narration taking away from the story it is being written in the third person by an older Toby who is musing on his own childhood. I’d much rather see it from the perspective of a 13 year-old boy whose just found out that the whole town has become a gathering place of all Marvel characters. I think young Toby might be a whole lot more excited than the old Toby who keeps alluding to more to come.

Another issue I have is the ending.  The ending switches to a couple on the other side of town who currently have no relation with Toby and their unusual problem with a Marvel character. Uhhhh?? WTF??? How the heck did this even make it into the issue? Isn’t there an easier way to introduce a new character, maybe through narration since that seems like a popular angle? I spent the last 3 pages saying; uh? It’s very hard to follow and even harder to read.

One more and then I’ll stop…Toby narrates that his dad is smart and useless until something happens, but keeps that something a “secret” until next story.  Really!? Is that really necessary, let’s keep the suspense with the Marvel comic book characters coming to life and not some dead beat dad who might just turn out to be a good thing in his kid’s life.

I just hope the next issue will have a little more action AND story, not just the latter. It’ll be interesting to see if this series gets better.
