Posted by ComicNerd as New Comic Day, News, Ramblings
Hello and welcome to our weekly wrap-up! “But it’s Tuesday!” you say? Yes, but everyone knows that the week doesn’t officially start until tomorrow: New Comics Day!
The Ghost Rider giveaway has been going strong, and I am very excited by the participation. It’s going much better than I ever expected. Recently Stephanie and redhollywood broke 100 comments! It looks like it’s between these two, and it’s been so funny to see them switch positions regularly. Not only that but all of the comments have been relevant and not just noise. Thanks so much guys! But you never know, someone may come out of the blue and catch up - there’s still plenty of time in this month for both of ya to be left in the dust! Check out the contest and see if you got the chops to pass up these two power posters.
The ComicNerd.com Comic Shop Finder Widget I announced and released last week has had 50 downloads so far! I really hope people are putting it to good use and their readers are enjoying it.
The Incredible Hulk came out last weekend, and I haven’t had a chance to see it. I have heard a lot of different takes on it, but soon we should have an official review up on COmicNerd thanks to accomplished movie reviewer Stephanie.. which brings me to the next bit of news:
I would like to present to you another new addition to the writing staff for ComicNerd.com: Stephanie! After weeks of bugging her senseless I have finally convinced her to come on board at ComicNerd! That’s how much I care about you guys - now we have even more quality riders in addition to redhollywood, who joined us last week. Now you don’t have to put up with so mayn of my typos.
Let’s hear more about this awesome new writer:
Greetings, fellow nerds! I’m Stephanie and I’ve been a comic book junkie for a couple years now. I’ve always been a geek. As a kid, I loved watching superhero cartoons and I grew up playing Nintendo and Playstation. I’ve always been a huge fan of Batman, but when I saw Batman Begins I was hooked and really started reading comics. My favorite superhero (besides Bats) is Wolverine, and I like Gambit a lot, too.
Along with writing for ComicNerd, I cover comics under the code name WITA over at the Girls Entertainment Network, which was founded by Video Game Live’s Becky Young. I also have my own blog, What Is Techno Again?—which is where my nickname comes from.
I live in Pennsylvania, where I’m currently studying as an English major. I hope to write and publish a novel one day, and after I graduate I would love to write for a magazine or find an outlet in the gaming, film, or comic industry. When I’m not writing (which I do a lot), I enjoy reading, listening to music, playing with my cats, gaming, and watching movies. I’m also fond of Star Wars, science fiction/fantasy, and songs about Superman.
We’re looking for more writers! If you or anyone you know might be interested in writing for ComicNerd - hit me up!
Finally, here’s a little tidbit for ya: I am working on a forum for ComicNerd! I don’t know how long it will take but currently in a remote location I am channeling the resourcefulness of Forge and the intelligence of Beast to figure out the integration between Wordpress and this new Forum so all members can cross back and forth. I will keep you updated.
Ok, let’s get started with what’s up!
Click through the jump to get the full rundown from the last week and a full review of what’s coming in the world of comics this Wednesday on June 11th!
The Latest ComicNerd.com Comic Book Reviews and posts:
Tomorrow’s comics that caught my eye!
Y: The Last Man volume 10 trade paper back FINALLY comes out tomorrow. I was stuck on the trades for this series and I have been waiting forever for the final installment. It’s been super hard not to read that final issue - but it’ll be paying off tomorrow! World of Warcraft #8 comes out as well, that series has been pretty dang good. Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein: Prodigal Son mini series continues with #2, I still haven’t had a chance to read #1 yet, unfortunately. Everybody’s Dead #4 comes out as well, and after reading #2 and #3 I have lost much interest in this series. I think I’ll be buying this 4th and if it stinks too I’m going to have to drop it. The Mummy Movie Prequel Rise & Fall Of Xangos Ax #3 hits the shelves, and we’ll be grabbing that one up.
From image Comics Dead Space #4 comes out, and this is another ‘better redeem itself” issue for me. I’m not much of a Ben Templesmith fan, and the story has limped a bit so even though it’s a 6 issue mini, I’m still more keen on saving my money. On the other hand, the amazing Gemini series continues with #2, and I am excited about reading that one. Pilot Season marches on from Top Cow with Genius #1.
On the Marvel side, Guardians of the Galaxy #2 is on it’s way, which I am looking forward to since the first issue was so much fun to read. Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four #2 is also being released, but these tie-ins are staying off my pull list for the most part.
That’s it for stuff that caught my eye, what about you? Anything below look interesting to you?

1Haha, it is ridiculously funny to see us the two of us duke it out, isn’t it? Even though I’m sure both of us would be happy just to get either one of the two, competition is more fun.
Wow! That’s awesome the widget is doing so well!
Thanks for the intro, man!
