Storyline: No Specific Story Arc
Date: 2008
Price: $2.99 US
Writer: Ian Boothby
Artist: James Lloyed
Synopsis: From the files of the Secret Justice Team comes a tale of derring-do and action-packed action, as Captain Yesterday (Fry), Clobberella (Leela), and Super King (Bender) face the vengeful wrath of the spawn of one of the greatest villains from their decidedly small Rogues Gallery, The Sun!
Opinion: Basically, I’m not really a fan of when the characters of the comic go off in a totally different direction, or take a side trip from what I perceive as their reality. In this comic Fry, Leela and Bender reminice about their old ’super hero’ days and their adventure with their arch villian Sun’s son. Hence the title, Son of the Sun.
To be honest, the script is good, and the art fine. The characters spout the usual silly puns and references to movies and songs and the professor, as always, comes up with a way to save the day. But not really. Still, he tries, and you gotta love him for that. Things do get wildly out of control, as expected, to the point where Zoidberg is begging to eat the toilet shrimp, and they are all brought to the brink of disaster before they save the day in the usual unexpected way.
The comic is solid, and good if you like that kind of deviation. I don’t. So, I didn’t like the comic. Also, I didn’t get the last page joke. Either I’m brain dead today or it truly was lame. If someone else out there ‘gets’ it, will you please explain it to me?
